How Meditation Changed My Life
Hello Everyone. I am Christine and in this blog, I want to share how I get into meditation and how it changed my life.
From the Beginning...
As a child, I was quite clumsy and under confident. Things didn’t change during my teen ages too. I was not good at anything from academics to sports or any other extracurricular activities. Not that I ever tried because I was always afraid of people judging me. I liked dancing and playing football but I never participated in any of these during my education days.
Then months before my 23rd birthday, I was feeling very disturbed and wobbly. At that time, I was at my friend’s home. Her mother saw me and started to inquire what’s wrong with me. I replied, “I don’t know. I am just not feeling good.” She didn’t ask further and brought two mats and said, “Come, sit down”. I was baffled but I followed her instructions.
Afterward, she told me to sit the way she was sitting (in Padmasana). Then she told me to close my eyes, be quiet and try not to think anything. Of course, I followed her.
Honestly, I was very annoyed at that time but I couldn’t disrespect her. So I sat there thinking that she would do it for maximum 3-5 minutes. Initially, I had thoughts like why my friend isn’t coming soon, or I should’ve met her outside and such random thoughts. But gradually every thought was fading away and I was feeling quite calm and serene. It felt like I am at some new place or something. Moments later, somebody shook me through my shoulder. It was my friend. Her mother was nowhere in the room. On asking where her mother is, she replied, “She is in the kitchen. She said not to disturb you but I couldn’t help because I am waiting for you to open your eyes for 15 minutes.” I looked at the watch and I was shocked. I was sitting there for 30 minutes.
When I returned home I was perplexed but much lighter from inside too. It was the first time ever I felt so refreshed and invigorated. I had that feeling that I want to do it again. I sat down and closed my eyes but I couldn’t sit there even for 5 minutes.
However, I tried again in the early morning. It didn’t happen as the first time. Eventually, I called my friend and talk to her mother. She told me about the yoga and meditation class she enrolled herself in.
As soon as the call ended, I called them and registered myself for their demo class. And this is where my friend I got everything. The meditation practice brings me the stability and peace that I never knew resided within me. Having a teacher really helped me a lot in my practice.
Today I am a confident, positive and happy person. Moreover, I am more focused on my life personally and professionally. Not that meditation resolved all the complications of my life but it surely gave the strength to face and resolve problems on my own. I have thanked the mother of my friend a million times who introduced me to it. Also, I am going to join a Yoga Teacher Training Course next month in Rishikesh in order to deepen my practice.
I hope my experience will help you to know that you can feel peace through meditation. We try lots of things in our lifetime to make our life better, so meditation is definitely worth a shot.
